Allen's Story

My brother, Allen “Tig” Fortune was murdered on May 8, 2004 by Chad Wesley Hamilton. Allen was attending an after-prom party when Mr. Hamilton wandered in off the street after leaving a local bar in town. After listening to multiple eye-witness accounts in court during TWO murder trials, we know that Chad Hamilton, a stranger to all, came in uninvited and started a fight with another young man. Allen walked up and asked Chad to leave, trying to break up the fight, and Mr. Hamilton pulled out a knife and stabbed him directly in his heart, cruelly and unjustly taking my little brother’s life.

Words are far too trite to describe the horror, agony, despair, and magnitude of the loss that Chad Hamilton has inflicted with his violent crime.

The hole in my brother’s heart upon which my precious mom and I stared the night of his murder is representative of the unending hole that is left in many lives that will never be filled. We not only mourn for what is lost, but for what will never be.

The pain is ever present, however, God truly sustains us through our darkest valleys and His grace and strength are more than sufficient.

Since Allen’s murderer’s first conviction, he has appealed every decision of the court and fought every denial of parole by the State Board of Parole causing us to revisit and relive his brutal crime multiple times. Some may think it easier to overlook this criminal’s recurring consideration for release every few months, to give up and stop fighting, to act as if it is not happening, to “move on” as they say. That may be the “easier” thing to do but not the right thing. This is not about simple revenge against Chad Hamilton for his vicious crime against my brother because his actions are not rectifiable and nothing we do will bring Allen back to us. Ultimately, I believe God will serve due justice. I pray for Chad Hamilton and his soul because only God can turn worthless into precious.

HOWEVER, protesting this murderer’s release from prison IS about fighting for the ones we love. When we love someone, we stand up for them, honor and respect them no matter the cost, fight for them selflessly regardless of the possible emotional ramifications we may experience from reliving a nightmare. The purpose of protesting IS about speaking for those who have lost their voice; those whose voices have been taken away unrightfully by another human being. Allen is not able to speak for himself; his right to life was taken away by Chad Hamilton, whose voice still remains loud and clear. SO, I am his voice. YOU are his voice.

I want to thank those of you who have or will take the time to selflessly contribute to honoring my brother, someone who deserves to be honored.

  1. It absolutely makes my stomach hurt to know that Chad could get out of prison. Allen was a VERY sweet, generous, caring, peacemaker kind of guy!! He is missed dearly. CHAD HAMILTON NEEDS TO STAY IN JAIL!!!! NOT FOR ONLY 10 YEARS but FOR LIFE!!!!!!!! END OF DISCUSSION!!!!

  2. Allen was a very special individual and a wonderful neighbor. I still can not fathom what caused Chad Hamilton to end Allen's life, and know that when he was previously released, he was caught with a similar weapon, and illegal substances in an intoxicated condition, which of course points directly as to what he would be doing again if he were released now.

Allen was a very caring person, he started off life as a premature infant, and had struggles there. Later my son was also born premature, and Mrs. Jeannie kept him for a time. Allen was very good with my son, and had patience and compassion in dealing with him.

Allen's death was caused by him trying to break up a fight, and instead of talking, or even focusing on his original victim, Chad Hamilton drew a very large knife, and stabbed my friend Allen, through the heart, cutting off a valve.

Society will be in harm's way when Chad is released, and especially after TWO murder trials, and his sentence already being reduced, he should not be released on Parole. At a very minimum, he should be forced to serve out his sentence, this will help protect society from him, at least for that period of time, before he is released and murders again.

    Please consider our requests

In order for justice to be served, Chad Hamilton needs to serve his entire prison sentence.

It saddens me to core to know that once again Chad Hamilton, the murderer of my dear friend, Allen, is requesting parole. Does he not realize that he took the life of someone. And not just anyone, he took the life of a wonderful, caring, young man. A man that loved God, his family and his friends with his whole heart. Chad Hamilton is the reason Allen's family and friends will NEVER get to see the bride he would have chosen for his wife or what their children would have looked like. We will never see him playing in the yard with his neice and nephews whom he loved so much.
If Chad Hamilton is released today what will that say to the rest of society? That if you murder someone all you will have to do is spend a couple years in jail? How is that fair? This man should pay for his crime.
So what that he has ten years in jail. My friend has no time left on this earth. Chad Hamilton took that from him. At least Chad's family can visit him and talk with him on the phone. And he WILL be released.
Chad should serve his time. He should pay for the pain and agony that he has caused to so many for taking the life of a man that had so much life left to live.
He should pay for the pain that he has caused to Allen's beautiful dear sister for everything that she has had to go through and all of the time and effort she has put into keeping her brother's memory alive. He should have to pay for the hurt and pain that Allen's sweet, loving mom had to endure with the loss of her son while she was suffering from so many health problems herself. MAKE HIM PAY!!
Allen and his family and friends deserve to see him pay for what will forever be a whole in our hearts for the loss of our friend/son/brother.

  6. Chad Hamilton deserves life in prison, the community is not safe with individuals such as Chad Hamilton who could possibly be freed to join civilized mankind. Chad Hamilton is not a civilized human being,he had no regard for life and can very easily take another innocent soul off the Earth in minutes if he allowed to leave his contained cell space. Please do not allow another life to be taken by allowing Chad Hamilton his freedom.

Allen Fortune lost his life way too early, his family's sense of freedom was taken away the moment Allen Fortune took his last breath. Chad Hamilton should not be granted the honor of freedom... Allen Fortune nor the family was given this courteousy.

  7. 10 years for murder? And maybe less? Wouldn't it be a precident we set if we let Mr Hamilton out? Don't let him get away that easily. He already has a bootleg sentence... let him at least serve all of it. Then he can go on enjoying the rest of his life while Allen's family grieves the rest of theirs.
